We GenXers streamed our content back in the day with VHS. VHS (Video Home System) is a standard for consumer-level analog video recording and playback, introduced in 1976. It became the dominant format for home video, widely used for watching movies, recording television programs, and storing personal video content during the 1980s and 1990s. We could play, rewind, fast forward, pause, stop and even record movies. If it was a video rental though, you always had to remember to be kind and rewind.
