I remember sitting in our station wagon with the windows rolled down (since we had no A/C and it was cooler outside then in the steamy car) sniffing the fumes as my dad gassed up this tank of a car. Gasoline back then had a very distinctive almost addictive smell to it. Nowadays I can hardly smell the fuel at the pump. Or maybe I've just become desensitized over the years. Or maybe I'm just getting old and losing my sense of smell.
